If you’re reading this, you probably remember when the internet still made that dial-up screech, when “guild portal” meant a hand-coded HTML page with a MIDI file playing in the background, and when Sons of Captain Kirk had a home online that felt like ours.

That home is back.

A Long Time Coming

databits40 started life back in 2002 as a scrappy little portal for our gaming guild — the kind of site you’d bookmark, check between raids, and argue about in the forums at 2 AM. Somewhere along the way, like a lot of those early-2000s community sites, it went quiet. Servers changed hands. Priorities shifted. The internet moved on to bigger, glossier, more corporate things.

But some of us never really left that era behind — and honestly, why would we? There was something about those small, self-built community pages that today’s algorithm-driven feeds just can’t replicate. So this is a revival, not a reinvention. Same spirit, same nostalgia, updated just enough to actually work in 2026.

What’s Here Now

A forum. A real, honest-to-goodness discussion board — because some conversations are better as threads you can scroll back through than messages that vanish into a chat log. Gaming talk, guild stories, whatever needs discussing, it’s got a home here now.

The AI Game Advisor. (coming soon!) A side project that’s been in the works — an AI-powered tool built to help with game strategy and decision-making. You’ll find a link to the download and the GitHub repo right here on the site if you want to check it out or dig into the code yourself.

More to come. This is a first post, not a finished product. Expect the retro aesthetic to get some love, expect the forum to fill in, and expect this to keep looking and feeling like the internet we grew up loving.
